Garam Masala Seasoning Mix Recipe
This versatile Garam Masala seasoning mix recipe will get you started on your Indian dishes with core ingredients that are most likely readily available in your cupboards. ‘Masala’ means spice and you will absolutely love this aromatic blend, finding that it can be used in a number of dishes that are certainly not limited to Indian food.
Garam Masala is used in popular Indian dishes like Chicken Tikka Masala, Murgh Makhani (butter chicken) and quick and easy Leftover Curry Turkey. Additionally, it can also kick your basic cupcake, gingerbread or applesauce into the realm of fantastic!
Our Garam Masala seasoning mix recipe includes cumin, coriander, black pepper, cinnamon, cardamom, nutmeg and cloves. Simply mix these ground ingredients in a bowl and store any unused portion in an airtight container and in a cabinet that is cool and dry.
Typically, these ingredients are roasted and ground up in a mortar and pestle but this quick version works in a pinch. Also, when seasoning Indian dishes use your ground seasoning toward the end of the cooking process for a more authentic flavor. Instead use whole cinnamon sticks, cloves, cardamom pods, etc (I also use bay leaves) and remove them before adding the ground seasoning.
